Requests for money, gift cards, commissary deposits, bail funds or crypto are the most common scam pattern in this space. Jail Crush never collects funds on behalf of anyone listed here and cannot recover money you send.
Verify with official records
Before corresponding, look the person up through the official federal, state or county record search on our Verify an Inmate page. Government records are the source of truth — a profile is not proof of anything.
Protect your personal information
Consider a P.O. box instead of your home address. Don't share financial account details, your workplace, your daily routine, or information about children.
Watch for pressure and urgency
Fast declarations of love, secrecy requests, emergencies with deadlines, or asking you to communicate outside institution-approved channels are all warning signs.
Follow institution rules
Each facility has its own mail, photo and electronic messaging rules. Violating them can end correspondence entirely. Check the institution's published guidance before writing.
Report anything suspicious
Every profile has a Report Profile action. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team, and profiles can be removed while under review.
